Regional U-17 Two-Day Cricket: Chulai spins Guyana into a strong position against Leeward Islands

Left-arm spinner Golcharran Chulai bagged 4-34 from 15 overs to give Guyana the upper hand at the end of day one in their Regional Under-17 Two-Day match against Leeward Islands at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

At close of play on Saturday, Guyana trailed by Leeward’s first innings total by 47 after bowling them out 144. Emmanuel Lewis 26* (1×4) from  82 balls and Romesh Bharrat 23* (2x4s) from 61 balls are at the crease for Guyana.

Rampersaud Ramnauth (22) and Vikash Wilkinson (17) were the dismissed Guyanese batsmen.

Earlier, The Leeward Islands batting lineup crumbled under pressure as their decision to bat first backfired.

Guyana’s seamers, led by Devon Wharton, struck early, removing both openers inside the first four overs.

The Leewards were reeling at 34-4, with De-Antre Drew (26) the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal batting performance.

Wharton ended with 2-23, while skipper Jonathan Van Lange had 2-28.
