An accident in Cottage, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, early Saturday morning has resulted in the death of 28-year-old Collin Dowden from Belle Vue, West Coast Berbice.
The collision occurred around 03:00 hrs when a motorcar driven by Shakeem Booker, 23, from Seafield, West Coast Berbice, veered off the road.
According to police reports, Booker was driving east along the Cottage public road at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car struck a concrete and mesh fence before crashing into a utility pole.
The force of the impact injured the driver and three passengers: Ron Robertson, 36, of No. 42 Village, West Coast Berbice; Collin Dowden; and Tyreece McDonald, 17, of Seafield, West Coast Berbice.
Emergency responders transported the injured individuals to Mahaicony Public Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Dowden was pronounced dead. The driver and the remaining passengers were treated at the hospital before being transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital for further care.
Dowden’s body is currently at Bailey’s Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
