A traffic incident Wednesday night involving a red Fielder Wagon (PXX 4206) has resulted in the death of 18-year-old Sceada Swallay, a hairdresser from Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The incident occurred at around 22:20 hrs on the Meten Meer Zorg Public Road, WCD, near the Guy India Store.
The vehicle, owned by Rona Hill of Anna Catherina, WCD, was driven by 19-year-old Janheam Kwame Silas from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Silas and Swallay were travelling east when, according to Silas, they were attacked.
He claims that the attacker, who had been following them since De Kinderen, struck their car with a chopping instrument before driving off. Silas stated that an argument later ensued between him and Swallay over the incident, during which Swallay allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to crash into a lamp post.
Both Silas and Swallay were transported to Leonora Cottage Hospital, where Swallay was pronounced dead.
Police found extensive damage to the vehicle’s right side, and Silas was taken into custody after a breathalyzer test indicated alcohol consumption, with readings of 0.05 and 0.07 micrograms.
Swallay’s mother, Susana Manan, revealed that her daughter and Silas had been in a relationship for several years, although they often argued. She last saw her daughter alive at around 20:00 hrs on the same day.
The police observed several injuries on Swallay’s body, including contusions to her head and face. Her body has been transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home for a postmortem examination.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the area, although no new information has been gathered from residents as of yet.
