After a series of successful trials, the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has announced a shortlist of athletes for the upcoming CARIFTA Track and Field Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.
The final trials, held over the weekend at the National Track and Field Facility, showcased the depth of junior athletic talent in Guyana.
Notable names on the shortlist include last year’s CARIFTA Games medallists Malachi Austin, Athaleyah Hinckson, Tianna Springer, Attoya Harvey, and Kaidon Persaud.
AAG aims to send a team of at least 30 athletes to Trinidad and Tobago for the Easter weekend competition.
To ensure optimal preparation, the shortlisted athletes will participate in two intensive training camps, April 4-6 and April 11-13.
These camps will focus on refining skills, enhancing physical conditioning, and building team cohesion.
The final team to represent Guyana at the 2025 CARIFTA Games will be announced on April 8, following a thorough evaluation of the athletes’ performance during the camps and a comprehensive assessment of their readiness.
First Vice-President Mark Scott hailed the trials as successful, praising the athletes’ talent and potential.
Guyana secured eight medals at the 51st CARIFTA Games in Grenada, placing fourth overall.
The government will support the team’s participation in the Caribbean’s premier junior track and field event.
