Lusignan A and B teams will clash for the East Coast Cricket Board President’s Cup T20 title on Sunday (April 6) following convincing wins in the semi-finals on Sunday last at the Lusignan ground.
Lusignan A thumped Fairfield by 57 runs and Lusignan B prevailed by 38 runs over Better Hope A.
Lusignan A piled up 178-5 from the allotted 20 overs, with half-centuries from openers Chetram Balgobin and Steve Ramdass and a quickfire knock from Nigel Deodat forming the base of the innings.
Balgobin made 54 off 35 (5x4s, 3x6s) and Ramdass scored 51 off 42 (5x4s, 1×6) in an opening partnership of 89 in 9.4 overs. Ramdass and Deodat then added 70 in 7.5 overs for the second wicket, with Deodat making 43 off 29 (6x4s, 1×6).
Keon Francis (2-39), Saif Ragbeer (1-29) and Ramnarine Chatura (1-31) were the wicket-takers for Fairfield, who responded with 121-9 from the allotted 20 overs.
Dennard Lovell topscored with an unbeaten 32 off 17 (4x4s, 2x6s), Wasim Mustapha made 31 off 24 (4x4s, 1×6) and Quincy Halley 23 off 22 (1×4, 1×6).
Bowling for Lusignan A, Balgobin picked up 3-20 off four overs, Chanderpaul Ramraj 2-8, Suresh Dhanai 2-11 and Rajpaul Basdeo 2-25.
In the other game, Lusignan B, batting first, put up 188-6 from the stipulated 20 overs against Better Hope A.
Karamchan Persaud slammed six sixes and a four in 49 off 16 balls; Vishnu Ramjeet scored 40 off 32 (2x4s, 2x6s); Kumar Bishundial 33* off 19 (1×4, 3x6s); and Krishna Deosaran 27 off 28 (3x4s).
Ryan Pramchand took 2-26 off four overs for Better Hope A, who made 150 from 17.5 overs.
Bishundial (3-14), Somnauth Bharratt (2-29) and Rajendra Naikbarran (2-35) were the leading bowlers for Lusignan B.
Randy Dhanraj 42 off 31 (5x4s, 2×6), Azad Mohammed 41 off 20 (4x4s, 3x6s), Sachin Singh 28 off 12 (2x4s, 3x6s) and Ravi Singh 20 off 22 (2x4s) were the top scorers for Better Hope A.
Sunday’s final between the two Lusignan teams will bowl off at 14:00h. Prior to that, Fairfield and Better Hope A will clash in the third place playoff from 10:00h.
A total of 24 teams started the knockout competition several weeks ago.
