A 28-year-old man of Kwakwani, Region 10, was allegedly murdered on Thursday, sometime between 22:00 and 22:15 hrs.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said 24-year-old Daniel Hartman is the suspect. The victim’s only known name at this time is ‘Blacka.’
Daniel is the owner of a wooden house resting on wooden posts about two feet above ground. Daniel and his 28-year-old brother Nicholas Hartman live in the house.
In August 2024, Daniel left his home and went to Georgetown to work, leaving his brother at his house. On April 3, Hartman returned to the house and met his brother and Blacka there.
The brother reportedly said Blacka was staying there as he (Blacka) was looking for a job.
An argument started between ‘Blacka’ and the suspect over ‘Blacka’ staying at the house. During the argument, Nicolas left the house and went further down the street. About 15 to 20 minutes later, Nicholas returned to the house, where he saw ‘Blacka’ lying in a pool of blood on the floor in the hall with a knife next to him. Nicholas then reported the matter to the police.
The ranks responded and met ‘Blacka’ lying on his back on the flooring of the hall area in a pool of blood. A knife was nearby. The ranks escorted ‘Blacka’ to Kwakwani Hospital Complex, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and later died at the hospital.
His body was examined, and several wounds were seen on his lower back and chest. The body is at the Kwakwani Mortuary, awaiting a PME.
Offficers later contacted Daniel at Kwakwani waterfront, where he was told of the allegation, arrested, and cautioned.
Daniel admitted to the allegation and informed the ranks that he and ‘Blacka’ had an issue with him staying at his house. Blacka refused to leave his home, and they had a scuffle during which he stabbed him with a knife.
Daniel was placed in custody. Investigations are in progress.
