Second Blue Water Shipping Girls U-15 Championship targets 91 Secondary Schools

The second edition of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Blue Water Shipping Under-15 National Secondary School Championship is poised to make an even greater impact.

The organisers have announced an ambitious expansion, aiming to involve 91 schools from across the country—almost double the number that participated in its inaugural year.

Over 60 schools have registered already.

This nationwide competition, which has the backing of the Ministry of Education, has quickly established itself as the largest platform for girls’ football in Guyana.

The official launch event for the 2025 edition took place on Thursday at the GFF’s National Training Facility in Providence.

Wayne Forde, the President of the Guyana Football Federation, spoke of the tournament’s strategic importance for the future of the national game.

He noted that the tournament was conceived with a clear vision: to provide a structured platform for girls across Guyana to engage in competitive football within their school system, given the deficiency in the club system.

The programme will naturally increase the talent pool for the national section, and the GFF plans to have the necessary support mechanisms to identify such talent.

More so, Richard DeNobrega, the Senior Vice President of Sales and Development at Blue Water Shipping, reiterated his company’s pride in supporting the tournament’s growth.

The company’s commitment to this championship reflects its deep belief in the power of sport to empower young women and contribute to the positive development of communities across Guyana.

The inaugural championship in 2024 provided a thrilling spectacle, culminating in a dramatic final where St. Ignatius Secondary edged out Waramuri Primary Top in a tense penalty shootout.
