Van Lange and Billingy spearhead Team Guyana for Caribbean Youth Table Tennis Championships

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA)  has unveiled its talented national junior table tennis teams, with Jonathan Van Lange and Jasmine Billingy leading the charge at the 2025 Caribbean Youth Table Tennis Championships.

The tournament is set to take place in Bridgetown, Barbados, from April 19th to 26th.

The championships carry significant weight as they serve as the qualification event to determine the Caribbean region’s top four male and female Under-19 teams.

These teams will then advance to the Panam Youth Games in Asuncion, Paraguay, scheduled for August 2025.

Guyana’s ambitions for medals and Panam Games qualification in the Boys’ Under-19 division will heavily rely on the skills of national junior champion Jonathan Van Lange.

A Caribbean Boys’ team silver medallist and individual bronze medallist, Van Lange will be supported by the promising talents of Colin Wong, a Caribbean Boys’ team silver medallist and cadet silver medallist, Krystian Sahadeo, also a Caribbean Boys’ team silver medallist currently honing his skills in India on a training scholarship, and the talented Malachi Moore.

The highly skilled Jasmine Billingy will spearhead the girls’ team, which will be spearheaded by the reigning national junior girls’ champion and multiple Caribbean championships medallist.

Billingy will be accompanied by former Caribbean Girls’ Under-13 champion and Cadet team silver medallist Samara Sukhai, along with the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) team champions, the talented Akira Watson and Angel Robinson duo.

Notably, while the girls’ team primarily comprises under-15 players, they will be stepping up to compete in the Girls’ under-19 team events and their respective under-15 singles and doubles categories due to the Under-19 age requirement for Panam Games qualification.

According to the GTTA, the boys’ and girls’ teams have been diligently preparing for these championships under the guidance of coaches Linden Johnson and Godfrey Munroe, with additional individual training undertaken with their respective club coaches.

Their preparation has also been boosted by the support of national table tennis ace Shemar Britton, who dedicated time to work with the young team members during his study break.
