Guyana’s junior tennis talent, Zion Hickerson, capped a highly successful run by finishing as runner-up in the boys’ division at the Casely International Tennis Championship in Florida.
According to a press release from the player’s father, Hickerson navigated a competitive draw of 200 players, showcasing impressive form built on a solid foundation from his participation in the Little Mo International tournament the previous week.
En route to the final, Hickerson defeated players from three different nations, demonstrating his strong regional standing.
In round one, he defeated Japan’s Kanata Arai 6-4, 6-1, followed by a quarter-final victory over Costa Rica’s Eitan Nelkenbaun 6-3, 6-4
In the semi-final, he overcame Guatemala’s Constantino Adala 6-2, 6-3; however, in the championship match, Hickerson faced Colombia’s Samuel Radhakrishnan, where he ultimately fell 4-6, 1-6
The young Guyanese player is now switching focus from the tennis court to the squash court, as he prepares to compete in the US Junior Squash Championships in Philadelphia.
Hickerson’s competitive tour received extensive support from numerous corporate partners, including Acado, ENet, Beacon Cafe, Guyoil, Modern Optical and many others, underscoring the broad-based local support for his international efforts.
