Upgrades to Rosignol Market moving full steam ahead – Chairman Phillips

Major upgrades to the Rosignol Daily Market are progressing smoothly and are on track for completion within three months, according to Regional Chairman Ricardo Phillips.

As part of the upgrade, new washroom facilities will also be constructed to better accommodate both vendors and patrons, significantly improving sanitation and overall comfort at the market.

Phillips described the project as a meaningful investment by the Government, aimed at improving working conditions and boosting livelihoods.

“These are meaningful investments by the Government to enhance and improve the livelihoods of vendors,” Phillips said.

To facilitate construction, vendors were issued notices to vacate their stalls by January 7 and are currently operating along Stelling Road at the Rosignol Market. Business continues Monday through Friday throughout the construction period, ensuring vendors can still earn while the upgrades are underway.

The project is being overseen by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, with a strong focus on enhancing the overall market experience for both vendors and shoppers. A contract for the renovation has already been signed, signaling the Government’s firm commitment to the upgrade.

Addressing concerns from vendors about limited on-site activity, Phillips clarified that early-stage work has already begun.

“You wouldn’t see much work on site right now. An excavator was mobilized and preliminary land-clearing works were executed. The majority of the work is being done off-site because it’s a steel frame. Once completed, it will be transported and assembled on-site,” he explained.

Phillips reassured vendors that the project is progressing as planned and emphasized that, once completed, the upgraded market will provide a cleaner, safer, and more modern space—enhancing business opportunities and improving the daily experience for all who use the facility.
