Panama has announced plans to open an embassy in Georgetown, signalling a significant strengthening of diplomatic relations with Guyana.
The development was revealed following a meeting between President Dr Irfaan Ali and Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino Quintero, during which both leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation across several key sectors.
Talks focused on collaboration in oil and gas, logistics, agriculture, climate action and security.
As part of the engagement, Guyana invited Panama to join the Global Biodiversity Alliance as a founding member, an invitation that Panama accepted.
Both countries also agreed to deepen private-sector collaboration, enhance regional connectivity, and explore opportunities for energy integration. The leaders reaffirmed their intention to maintain ongoing engagement aimed at shared prosperity and stronger regional cooperation.
