Three men arrested after 24 lbs of cocaine found at Parika

Three men were arrested on Friday after ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) found 10.966 kilogrammes (or just over 24 pounds) of cocaine at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.

According to a CANU release, the three men— Jared Kellawan, Jahdiel Kellawan, and David Newsum— were intercepted in the vicinity of Mora Village, Parika, based on intelligence gathered. One man was carrying a haversack with three brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine inside.

The men were then arrested and taken to Jared’s residence, where another seven parcels of suspected cocaine were found. Subsequently, the trio was taken to CANU Headquarters; the cocaine was also taken there, weighed, and stored.

CANU said investigations continue.
