Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh has announced that more than 150,000 Guyanese have received or are in the process of receiving their $100,000 cash grant. That figure includes more that 10,000 residents of Region Nine who are receiving their grant via cheques.
Dr. Singh shared this update in a Facebook video on Tuesday night.
The decision to distribute cheques to some citizens, he said, was pursued in keeping with President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s instruction to provide direct assistance to persons residing in hinterland communities, who do not have access to bank accounts and banking facilities. So far, 10,417 cheques have been printed after teams were deployed to help with registration; other residents got their cash grant via direct bank transfer.
Importantly, Dr. Singh said teams will also be deployed to other hinterland regions to better support residents who do not have access to banking facilities. Those teams are also expected to support shut-ins across the country.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister said direct cash transfers have now been made to 140,546 persons, comprising 48,858 central government employees plus 91,688 persons who successfully self-registered on the new online portal. This brings the total number of persons who will be receiving the Government’s cash grant within this week to 150,963, he said.
The eligibility requirements to receive the National $100,000 Cash Grant paid into your bank account are as follows:
- Must be a Guyanese Citizen aged 18 years and older as at February 28, 2026
- Must have a valid National Identification Card, Digital Identity Card or Guyana Passport
- Registrant must have a bank account in their name at any local commercial bank
- Must be physically present in Guyana to register
The government has set up a national help desk to assist persons. This can be accessed on telephone numbers 501-5085 and 503-2977 during working hours. Dr. Singh said help desks will soon be established in several communities to help residents get registered for the grant.
