Sherwin Hamilton, a 49-year-old self-employed man from Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was murdered in the wee hours of Saturday outside the Boat House Sports Bar at Land of Canaan, EBD.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said the security guard at the Boat House Bar told investigators that, at about 02:30 hrs, while he was performing duties at the bar, Hamilton and a man had a heated exchange of words in the bar, and he the man out of the bar because he was the aggressor.
At about 03:00 hrs, the DJ turned off the music and told the patrons it was time to leave the bar. Persons started exiting the bar through the western door facing the public road. Hamilton also exited the said door, and the suspect and another male confronted him. The suspect shot Hamilton in the left upper thigh and then escaped the scene on an XR motorcycle.
Hamilton fell to the ground and a 25-year-old nurse who was at the bar rendered First Aid assistance by tying the injured leg with a vest.
Hamilton was picked up by his wife, Amanda Persaud, and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators processed the area, and a 9mm spent shell was found about twenty feet away from the western entrance of the Bar. Police are looking for the suspect as investigations continue.
