Labourer shot dead as Police return fire

Police are investigating the shooting death of Gordon Sancho, a 26-year-old resident of the Goedverwagting squatting area, which occurred early Sunday morning in ‘C’ Field, Cummings Lodge. The incident unfolded around 12:30 hrs.

According to reports, officers from the Alberttown Police Station were on mobile patrol when they responded to a call about the discharge of a loaded firearm with intent. The report was made by a 15-year-old student and her 34-year-old mother, a security guard employed at a private firm.

Upon arriving at the scene in Section ‘C’ Field, Cummings Lodge, the officers were directed to Sancho. Witnesses allege that Sancho, upon seeing the police, drew a handgun and fired two rounds in their direction, prompting the officers to seek cover. In response, one of the officers fired two rounds at Sancho. Sancho then fled a short distance east along ‘C’ Field Cummings Lodge Road before collapsing.

A .380 caliber pistol and three live rounds of ammunition were discovered next to Sancho. He was immediately transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the police, where he was treated but later succumbed to his injuries.

The body is currently at the GPHC mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full details of the shooting.
