Man, 31, dies in collision at Montrose

Thirty-one-year-old Akeem Lewis died on Tuesday morning following a collision with a minibus on the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Lewis, a resident of Buxton, ECD, was the driver of motorcar PAF 9125 when the accident occurred at about 09:57hrs.

Police Headquarters in a statement said enquiries revealed that Lewis was heading west on the northern lane of the road, at a fast rate, when he lost control and swerved.

During the process, Police said Lewis collided with minibus, BAH 1874, owned and driven by a 57-year-old from Airy Hall, Mahaicony.

Following the collision, Police said Lewis car toppled several times before coming to a halt.

Lewis was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

He was admitted as a patient suffering from multiple injuries. However, Lewis succumbed at about 15:05h rs while receiving medical attention.

The minibus driver is presently in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
