Over 19,000 land titles, transports issued, processed since 2020

Over the past four years, the Ministry of Housing and Water issued a total of 8, 075 land titles and another 11, 634 were processed.

The figures reflects distribution and processing of land titles and transports from August 2020 to the end of July 2024.

And with land ownership high on the ministry’s agenda, Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal told the News Room on Tuesday that another 1,500 land titles will be uplifted at the 2024 Building Expo.

“We want to reduce as far as practical where persons are residing officially now to have ownership and that’s why progression of titles and transports is high on our agenda and it’s an ongoing task.

“Ownership… to be able to encourage persons to build and then for us to play our part for home ownership,” Croal told the News Room during an interview on Tuesday.

To aid in building houses, Croal said the ministry have kept the costs for houses at the minimum.

Currently, he said there are various models of houses which are available at different cost, catering for different category of citizens.

“We want to encourage home ownership by the construction of houses but that too pose challenges,” Croal said.

In addition to this, Croal told the News Room that the ministry has also rolled out a number of programmes such as the steel and cement subsidy to aid persons to start building.

With over 32,000 house lots allocated since 2020, the government is on target of achieving its goal of distribution 50,000 house lots by 2025.
