Berbice fisherman remanded on narcotics possession charge

Days after he was arrested, a 33-year-old fisherman was on Thursday remanded to prison though he denied having 135.5 grams of cannabis in his possession.

Matthew Beharry, a resident of New Amsterdam, Berbice appeared before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.

He is accused of having 134.5 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Beharry pleaded not guilty to the chare. The prosecutor objected to bail and Beharry was remanded to prison.

Police said Beharry was arrested on Tuesday at the Supenaam waterfront, Essequibo Coast after he was found in possession of the narcotics.
