More than 40,000 house lots for distribution by year-end

The government is pumping huge sums of money into the development of new schemes and the expansion of existing ones, and by the end of this year, Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal said about 40,000 house lots would have been distributed by the Irfaan Ali-led government.

The governing People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) said it would provide 50,000 house lots between 2020 and 2025.

Since August 2020, when President Ali was sworn in, about 34,000 house lots have been distributed to Guyanese.

Minister Croal vowed that the government would deliver on this promise, distributing more lots each year.

“By the end of 2024, more than 40,000 house lots will be distributed,” Croal said at the opening of the 2024 International Building Expo on Thursday.

Furthermore, Croal said over 2,000 lots will be distributed at the Building Expo itself, while more than 1,000 titles will be given out.

Meanwhile, Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali told those gathered for the expo’s opening ceremony that his government believes home ownership is a crucial part of poverty alleviation strategies. As such, substantial funds are being invested in the sector.

In fact, he said about $240 billion has been pumped into the sector to build new houses, develop existing schemes, and even construct new highways.
