In a targeted operation conducted on Thursday, police seized two 12-gauge shotguns and a significant quantity of marijuana at Ebini, Upper Berbice River. The operation, which took place between 11:00 hrs and 6:00 hrs, was part of an intelligence-led initiative aimed at curbing illegal activities in the area.
During the operation, officers observed two men acting suspiciously in two boats. Upon noticing the police presence, the men abandoned their boats and fled into a dense area behind a wooden two-story structure on the eastern bank of the Berbice River.
A subsequent search of the area, including the surrounding house, yielded a haul of suspected cannabis sativa—comprising leaves, seeds, and stems—as well as the two shotguns, which were found to be without serial numbers. Additionally, police recovered a 40HP Yamaha outboard engine, a 2HP Yamaha outboard engine, and a Samsung cellphone.
All items, including the suspected narcotics and firearms, were transported to Mackenzie Police Station. There, they were marked, sealed, and placed into evidence bags for further processing.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend those involved.
