One fatally shot, five injured after police ended D’Urban Street party

A 40-year-old city vendor was shot and killed while five others were wounded after gunmen opened fire at D’Urban Street, Georgetown, where a party was ended by the police.

The deceased is Anthony Havescomes of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. He was shot multiple times.

Those injured are Travis Ceres, a 25-year-old vendor from East La Penitence; Teon Allen, a 38-year-old resident of Sophia; Stanley Matthews, a 31-year-old laborer also from Sophia; Destra Auther, a 33-year-old vendor from East La Penitence; and Lenox Wayne, a 39-year-old security guard from Turkeyen.

The men were shot in various parts of their bodies. They are all admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police Headquarters confirmed that the shooting unfolded around 05:45 hrs at Lot D’Urban Street Lodge, Georgetown, minutes after officers ended an ‘All Black’ party.

According to the police, a businessman who hosted the party claimed that he was cleaning up the venue when he heard several loud explosions. Upon checking, the police said the businessman reported that he saw a black motorcar speeding west along D’Urban Street.

The businessman said he then noticed the men with what appeared to be blood on their bodies and assisted in placing them in vehicles to be transported to the hospital.

At least two of the men who were shot are known to the police, as they had previous brushes with the law.

Investigations are ongoing.
