Following the recent America Boxing Confederation (AMBC) Forum in Havana, Cuba, the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) President, Steve Ninvalle, announced plans for a four-year Caribbean Developmental Programme.
The initiative, which has received the backing of the International Boxing Association (IBA), aims to bridge the skill gap between the Caribbean region and traditional boxing powerhouses.
The proposed programme, presented by Ninvalle on behalf of the Caribbean, includes plans to upgrade technical officers such as referees, judges, and coaches. Additionally, the region, led by Trinidad and Tobago, will be launching a Caribbean Professional Series.
Ninvalle emphasized the significance of this development, stating that it will create a more competitive and professional ecosystem for boxing in the Caribbean. He highlighted the importance of improving the skills of technical officers to ensure the sport’s growth and quality.
The AMBC Forum brought together boxing leaders from across the Caribbean, including Vincent Straun of the Bahamas, Neil Roberts of Grenada, Shawn Blair of St. Maarten, Ronald Joefield of Trinidad, Edwin Bass of Curacao, and David Christopher of St. Lucia.
