Police seize firearm during early morning patrol in G/Town

Early Friday morning, around 1:15 hrs, police officers on patrol in the Brickdam Police Station district responded to a tip-off and uncovered a firearm on Cross Street, near Leopold Street.

The officers, who were conducting routine patrols in a police vehicle, observed a man dressed in dark clothing with a black strap bag on his shoulder sitting on a motorcycle.

Upon noticing the police presence, the man abandoned the bag on the western side of Cross Street and fled south on the motorcycle.

A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of the abandoned bag. Inside, authorities found a Glock-17 9mm pistol, along with a magazine containing two live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The magazine was removed from the firearm and confirmed to be loaded.

Despite a search for the suspect, he remains at large. The firearm has been processed for fingerprints and will be taken to the ballistics section for further analysis.

The case remains under investigation, and police are continuing their efforts to locate the suspect.
