A bystander was on Monday afternoon shot and injured after the Police opened fire on a car which refused to stop for a search.
The injured woman is a 28-year-old Venezuelan.
She was shot in the buttocks during the incident which took place at approximately 14:00hrs on Lime Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said it was reported that two ranks from the Brickdam Police Station Impact Base Anti-Crime Patrol were on duty when they attempted to stop a tinted vehicle to carry out a search.
However, the car refused to stop and sped away, causing the ranks to open fire while pursuing the car.
During the process, the victim was struck.
She is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Police said the Office of Professional Responsibility is currently investigating the incident.
In the interim, the ranks are under close arrest.
