Regions 5, 3 lead cases for traffic offences last week

In a determined push to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations, police stations nationwide conducted a comprehensive traffic enforcement campaign from September 1 to 7, 2024.

Regions 5 and 6 emerged as focal points of action.

Led by Traffic Chief Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh, the operation yielded impressive results, with authorities addressing a total of 2,614 violations.

The campaign’s highlights include the issuance of 576 speeding tickets, with Region Five notably issuing 248 of these citations. Additionally, law enforcement brought 26 cases of driving under the influence before the courts, with Region Three accounting for 14 of these serious offenses.

The Traffic Chief’s initiative also tackled a range of other traffic violations:

Seat Belt Violations: 7 instances
Unlit Vehicles (front and rear): 88 cases
Tinted Glass Prohibitions: 223, with Region Three contributing 137 of these cases
Unlicensed Drivers: 35 cases
Helmet Violations (for drivers and passengers): 108 cases

In conjunction with these enforcement actions, the campaign included 45 sensitization sessions with drivers aimed at raising awareness about road safety.

Additionally, 42 educational sessions were held at schools, engaging nursery, primary, and secondary students, as well as teachers, to foster a culture of safety from an early age.

The police emphasize that these enforcement exercises are part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety, reduce accident risks, and address public concerns.

As the campaign continues in the coming weeks, the focus will remain on strengthening compliance and safeguarding the roads for all users.
