Motorcyclist Reagan Martin, 27, died after he was struck down by a motorcar on the Versailles Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) early Sunday morning.
Police Headquarters reported that the fatal accident occurred at about 02:30 hrs, in the vicinity of a health centre. The driver involved in the accident fled the scene just after.
Martin, a resident of Parfaite Harmonie, was riding his motorcycle (#CL 4994) along the public road. A motorcar (#PTT 2444) was reportedly proceeding south along the road at a fast rate.
The driver is said to have lost control of the car and collided with Martin.
As a result of the impact, Martin was flung off the motorcycle onto the grass parapet, where he succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the car went through some bushes on the western parapet and ended up in the trench partially submerged.
Police said the driver exited the vehicle after the accident and fled the scene.
In an update provided subsequently, Police Headquarters identified the driver as Luis Alberto Moreno, a resident of Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
He reportedly turned himself in, accompanied by his lawyer. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
