Sugar workers at the Rose Hall Estate in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) on Friday protested the dismissal of two employees.
The employees dismissed are a production manager and a laboratory technician. The News Room understands that their dismissal is linked to issues with the most recent crop.
Additionally, many workers do not support the appointment of the new production manager.
Gairaj Ramotar, a spokesperson for the workers said,“We get to understand dem knock off two man. Now, dem bring in a new man to take over, but that man worked at Rose Hall Estate and he helped close down the estate and dem bring he back. Dem workers say dem na want he here.”
Meanwhile, the two dismissed employees are receiving support from the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial, and Industrial Employees (NAACIE), which has stepped in to represent their case.
