President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Thursday emphasised that women are, and will continue to be, a major part of Guyana’s development.
And to ensure women are well-supported and empowered to contribute to national development, he said the government will continue to invest in ventures that will support them.
“We must ensure that women are participating more fully in the economy,” the Guyanese Head of State said as he made a special address to the 12th Parliament on Thursday.
During that address, the President outlined bold policy announcements and ground-breaking interventions set to shape the future of the nation. And as he highlighted those plans, Dr. Ali said the government is serious about empowering women.
Evidencing this sentiment, the President noted, is that thousands of women are benefiting from various scholarship and training ventures be it through the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL) or the Women’s Investment and Innovation Network (WIIN).
He also noted that more women are getting into non-traditional sectors like carpentry and masonry.
With plans to continue supporting women, Dr. Ali emphasised: “Women will continue to play a major role in the development of our economy.”
