A bandit was on Monday morning shot and injured after he tried to rob a businessman at his Campbell Avenue, Georgetown cellphone store.
The News Room was informed that the incident unfolded around 11:40 hrs. The intended victim is 39-year-old Dominic Narayan of Diamond, East Bank Demerara. He is a licensed firearm holder.
Reports revealed that Narayan was sitting outside the premises when the suspect entered the store, held him at gunpoint and demanded that he hand over money.
While this was ongoing, another man, 33-year-old Ronick Mohabir, entered the store and a scuffle ensued between him (Mohabir) and the suspect.
During the process, the News Room was told that the suspect discharged a round which struck Mohabir to his left hand.
This caused Narayan to whip out his firearm. He reportedly discharged two rounds, one of which struck the suspect to his abdomen
The suspect then fell to the ground. Later, the assailant was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the Police where he is currently admitted in an unconscious state.
Mohabir is receiving treatment at a private hospital in the city.
Meanwhile, Police recovered a firearm which was used by the suspect with one .38 round and three spent shells in the chamber.
An investigation is ongoing.
