Two bandits nabbed after shooting Better Hope businessman 

Two armed bandits, Winston Harris and Dexter Simon, were arrested after they shot and robbed a businessman at about 20:20 hrs Monday at the Ocean View Hotel at Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the businessman, 56, resides at the hotel with his family. He was working at the hotel’s bar on Monday night when three masked men, armed with handguns, attacked him.

The suspects reportedly forced the man to go to his dwelling by holding him at gunpoint. They demanded money and jewelry but the businessman refused to comply.

One of the bandits then shot the businessman in the right side of the abdomen, causing serious injuries. After that, the bandits successfully escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry.

The businessman was rushed to a private city hospital, where he was admitted as a patient. His condition is stable.

Later that night, Police went to an Industry, East Coast Demerara house where they managed to apprehend two of the three suspects. Police were acting on information received.

Harris, 35, and Simon, 38, were found there.

Police said Simon was caught with a black haversack with a .32 revolver and five matching rounds. He also had two Samsung cellphones and a toy gun in his possession.

The third suspect, identified only as Kevin, managed to escape from Police during a chase. He, however, dropped a black .38 revolver.

None of the cash or jewelry stolen from the businessman has been recovered. Investigations continue.
