Pedestrian, 78, dies after crushed by truck

A 78-year-old pedestrian is now dead after a truck collided with him early on Monday morning at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara.

Dead is Sheik Hassan of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.

Police said the truck (GAC 6742) was driven and owned by Arif Hussain, a 32-year-old from Annandale, East Coast Demerara.

According to the report, the truck was proceeding north along the road. While in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, traffic ranks signaled the northbound traffic to proceed.

Hassan reportedly crossed the road (from east to west) as a lorry was passing.

“… in doing so, the front of the lorry collided with him,” Police said.

Hassan was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians.
