Farmer, 69, arrested after Police find cannabis in White Water, NWD

On Thursday, at approximately 13:30 hrs, acting on intelligence, police ranks accompanied by a Community Policing Group (CPG) member visited the home of 69-year-old farmer Richard Leitch in Central White Water, North West District (NWD), Region One.

A police officer informed Leitch that they had received information suggesting he was in possession of narcotics and requested permission to search his home. Leitch consented to the search.

During the search, conducted in Leitch’s presence, officers discovered 37 small transparent ziplock bags containing cannabis in his bedroom along with a white salt bag with an additional quantity of cannabis on his bed.

Corporal Franklin seized the suspected narcotics and informed Leitch of the offence. When cautioned, Leitch reportedly admitted: “It’s my own; I does hustle.”

He was arrested and taken to the White Water Police Outpost, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence, confirming a total of 46.1 grams. The narcotics were then packaged, marked, sealed, and lodged in his presence.

Leitch remains in police custody as investigations continue.
