With an outright victory unlikely for either side unless a dramatic turn of events on the final day, the Guyana Harpy Eagles and West Indies Academy are locked in an engrossing tussle for first-innings points in round three of the 2025 West Indies Four-Day Championship at the National Stadium, Providence.
West Indies Academy is 131 away from an all-important first-innings lead with six wickets in the bank, but Harpy Eagles will hunt quick wickets when play resumes at 12:40h on Saturday.
The third day was the most productive.
After just 25.4 overs on day one and none on day two, 82.4 overs were bowled on day three, and more seemed likely until the persistent rain brought stumps.
With more rain in the forecast, the first-innings will be the target for both sides.
Meanwhile, starting day three 87-4, Harpy Eagles looked to make the most of the improved batting conditions as Kemol Savory and Kevin Sinclair added 53 until a horrible mix-up between the two.
Savory perished well-set on 39, and soon after, Sinclair senselessly ran out for 29.
Ronaldo Alimohamed then played another counter-attacking innings, and he and Gudakesh Motie added 113, which shifted the momentum back to the Eagles’ favor.
Alimohamed smashed four sixes and five fours in his 66 from 71 balls, while Motie got 52 (5x4a;1×6) from 74 balls.
Left-arm pacer Jediah Blades, who left the Eagles 37-3 in 10.4 overs on day one, ended with 4-37, while leg-spinner Zishan Motara got 3-37.
Batting on the cusp of the twilight period, West Indies Academy navigated the opening bursts from Nial Smith and debutant Thaddeus Lovell to reach dinner 43-0.
Veerasammy Permaul is one away from 650 First-Class wickets
However, after the interval, the Eagles made inroads led by Veerasammy Permaul, now one away from 650 First-Class wickets.
