Mark Cromwell, a 42-year-old former police officer better known by his aliases ‘Diamond’ or ‘Demon’, has become an unlikely social media sensation, even as he remains among those wanted men in Guyana.
Despite being on the run from the police for several months, Cromwell’s growing online presence, particularly on TikTok and Facebook, has left many baffled as to how the law enforcement agencies have failed to apprehend him.
Cromwell was officially listed as wanted by the police in October 2024, following the abduction of Delon Alexander on May 7, 2024, in Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The authorities issued a bulletin calling for his capture, but Cromwell has managed to elude police, and it’s believed that he has been hiding in plain sight.
According to reports, Cromwell’s last known addresses are in the communities of Vigilance and Buxton, East Coast Demerara.
The News Room was informed that he has been frequenting several East Coast Demerara locations in recent months, where he has reportedly been seen in the company of prominent businessmen, politicians, and even active members of the Guyana Police Force.
While he is being sought for serious criminal charges, Cromwell has built a significant following online, where he regularly posts videos of himself, exposing his identity and surroundings.
His last post was made on Facebook on Saturday where he has over 14, 000 followers.
These videos, which showcase his carefree attitude, have garnered hundreds of likes and sparked much intrigue.
Cromwell, who served as a police constable in his youth, has a history of brushes with the law.
In 2003, when he was just 21 years old, Cromwell was arrested by an army patrol in Linden.
During the arrest, two automatic pistols and live rounds of ammunition were discovered in the vehicle he was in, raising serious concerns about his involvement in illicit activities. However, despite numerous arrests over the years, including being questioned over a weapons cache, assaulting an officer, and even murder, Cromwell has never been convicted, though he has been remanded on occasions.
In May 2023, Cromwell was charged with assault after an incident in which he was allegedly caught on camera beating a traffic rank, Constable Harlequin. The footage sparked outrage, and Cromwell was subsequently remanded to prison.
The ongoing mystery surrounding Mark Cromwell has raised concerns over his potential connections with powerful figures, and the fact that he continues to evade the law adds fuel to speculation about the true extent of his network.
Authorities are still on the lookout for Cromwell, and anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the police immediately using the following numbers: 227-1149, 225-8196, 227-1611, 268-2328/268-2329, 226-3405, 225-6978, or 333-3876.
