Yohance Yarris, a 22-year-old unemployed man from Rasville, widely known as ‘Too Cute,’ was shot by police earlier on thursday during an arrest operation.
The young man, who had been on the run from authorities for several serious crimes, was wounded after police came under fire while attempting to apprehend him.
Yarris was shot in the chest and is currently receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he remains under police guard.
Yarris, who was wanted by the police for a series of armed robberies and a larceny incident, had been linked to multiple criminal acts in recent weeks. Police said the charges against him include:
Robbery Under Arms: Committed on Shane Stuart on 8th February 2025 at Cane View Avenue, South Ruimvelt.
Robbery Under Arms: Committed on Yong Jin on 25th January 2025 at Lot 64 Norton Street, Lodge.
Robbery Under Arms: Committed on Martin Pestano on 15th February 2025 at 41 Village, West Coast Berbice.
Larceny from the Person: Committed on Adrian Ally on 19th February 2025 at Mandela Avenue.
At approximately 14:45 hrs, police officers were conducting mobile patrol duties in Rasville when they spotted Yarris in a yard. Upon seeing the officers, Yarris fled the scene, drawing a handgun from a one-strap bag he was carrying.
In response, one of the officers exited the patrol vehicle and gave chase. During the pursuit, the officer heard a loud noise believed to be a gunshot coming from Yarris’s direction. Fearing for his safety, the officer fired a single round towards the suspect, who continued to flee, jumping a fence before collapsing in the street.
As the situation unfolded, a large crowd began to gather, growing hostile towards the police ranks. Despite the tension, the officers successfully detained Yarris and rushed him to Georgetown Public Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
The police have confirmed that Yarris is now under police guard at the hospital while investigations continue into the series of crimes he is believed to have committed.
