Taxi driver, 27, nabbed with ganja at Ogle Airport

Dequan Charles, a 27-year-old taxi driver of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was arrested Monday after he was nabbed with several parcels of marijuana.

Police Headquarters reported that the man was nabbed at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle by two Police ranks.

Charles had two boxes of Triskits crackers, one bag of Purina Dog Chow, and a bag of bird seeds. Upon inspection, the Police ranks discovered three transparent plastic parcels and two Ziploc bags labeled ‘Snowman’ and ‘Lemonade’ within the boxes and dog chow. The parcels and bags contained leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be marijuana.

Dequan was informed of the alleged offense, placed under arrest, and cautioned.

He immediately stated that an individual named ‘Akeem’ had given him the packages and instructed him to send them on the Kamarang flight.

He was taken to the Narcotics Branch at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary.

Upon arrival, the narcotics were weighed in his presence, totaling 2.90 pounds (or about 1.315 kilogrammes). Charles remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.
