Baby dies after accident involving electric bike, wagon 

A nine-month-old baby boy died on Sunday after a motorcar collided with the electric bike he was being carried on.

Dead is Eli Surujnarine.

Police Headquarters said the accident occurred at about 18:30 hrs on the Line Path Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

The baby’s father, 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine was riding the electric cycle at the time of the accident; the baby and his mother, 19-year-old Kavita Bedsan were pillion riders.

It was reported that the electric bike was proceeding north along the western side of Line Path Road when the Tushan suddenly felt an impact on the rear of his cycle. A white Fielder wagon hit the bike.

The man, his wife, and their child all fell off the bike, onto the roadway and were injured.

They were later picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by a doctor who treated and referred them to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

There, they were also treated by a doctor who later referred them to the Georgetown Hospital. The baby died on his way to the hospital, at about 09:45hrs on Monday.

The car involved in the accident has since been located by Police but the driver has not been arrested as yet. Investigations continue.
