Those who love the colorful and vibrant festival Phagwah will be delighted to know that the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha’s much loved Pre-Phagwah Mela “Rang Rasiya” is set for Saturday, March 8th at the Dharmic Rama Krishna School tarmac, which adjoins the Giftland Mall Parking Lot.
An event that offers a culinary feast, beautiful and appropriate cultural entertainment and an exciting folk dance competition begins when gates open at 4:00pm.
Patrons can experience the heady aromas emanating from the hot and tasty samosas, potato balls, pholorie and pakoras, or settle down for some 7 curry in a leaf, or just wrap chokha up in a hot roti or even savour a thali of authentic Indian food. Even if you have a sweet tooth, the variety of sweetmeats includes pera, barfi, gulab jamun and jalebi will satisfy your cravings. Chai and a doubles station make it a perfect stop for all foodies.
Dharmic Sabha is encouraging families to come out in their numbers to enjoy a festive and entertaining evening complete with a special kiddie zone and dunk tank. Patrons can even engage in some Phagwah shopping.
Dharmic Nritya Sangh of Naya Zamana fame will delight with vibrant dances, drama and they will be joined by an outstanding line up of Guyanese singers including Suraj Singh, Kishan Sugrim, Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Ranglall and the Chakra Band.
The beautiful cultural program will be complemented by riveting dances done by dance groups from around the country as part of the Indian Folk Dance Festival. Teams will vie for trophies and cash prizes.
The evening promises to be unforgettable. Tickets are available at the gates and cost $2000, children under 10 years are free.
