The Mae’s Schools at Subryanville, Georgetown were completely destroyed by a fire that started early Wednesday morning.
Early reports indicate that the fire started before 08:00 hrs Wednesday. A parent said a small fire was seen inside one of the buildings and though efforts were made to extinguish it, the fire spread rapidly.
At least five fire engines were on the scene trying to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to nearby structures.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand told reporters that, as advised so far, all the children were safely evacuated from the Mae’s Schools, Subryanville.
She also noted that the Government of Guyana will provide the necessary support to the school, particularly in accommodating the students at other schools.
