Jeffrey slams 118 from 67 balls in Bartica’s T20 League

Over the weekend, the inaugural Bartica Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament continued its explosive run with two high-scoring encounters at Daag Point ground.

In match one, Bartica Super Strikers elected to bat first against Mavericks and unleashed a batting masterclass.

Openers Ronald Jeffrey and Keanu Harry forged a breathtaking 226-run partnership, setting the tone for a mammoth total. Jeffrey blazed his way to a magnificent 118 off just 67 balls, while Harry provided equally destructive support with 88 off 48 deliveries.

Beron Allicock (3-27) and Teddy Wong (1-43) were the only Mavericks bowlers to find any measure of success as Super Strikers posted a formidable 233-4 from their 20 overs.

Mavericks responded with a valiant effort, but ultimately fell short. Kishaun Tracy led the charge with a blistering 65 off 35 balls, and contributions from Kenzo Baksh (21), Joshua Farrel (21), and Teddy Wong (21) kept them in the hunt.

However, Garfield Phillips (3-24) and Shane Williams (2-40) bowled effectively for Super Strikers, restricting Mavericks to 205-7 and securing a 28-run victory.

Underdogs opted to bat first against Gladiators in the second match and posted a competitive 179-7.

Deonarine Dindyal (67) and Ronaldo Schouten (61) were the standout performers, while Sukhdave Singh (15*) provided a late flourish.

Marvin Peters (2-38) and Dellon DaCosta (2-38) were the pick of the Gladiators bowlers.

Gladiators’ chase was a rollercoaster ride as Kevon Offord produced a stunning display of power hitting, smashing 54 off just 23 balls to inject momentum into the innings.

Delroy Brown (26) and Hamel Lamb (36) also contributed valuable runs.  However, Underdogs fought back strongly, with Curtis Simmons (3-30), Sukhdave Singh (2-31), and Christopher Kassim (2-33) taking crucial wickets.

The match went down to the wire, with Gladiators eventually scraping home by one wicket, reaching 186-9 in 13.2 overs.
