The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has received a significant boost from a donation of rugby kits from the UK-based charity SOS Kits Aid.
British High Commissioner Jane Miller presented the equipment, a mix of new and pre-loved gear, on behalf of the charity, which aims to support rugby development globally. The donation will benefit local players and grassroots programmes in Guyana.
SOS Kits Aid focuses on providing quality equipment to underprivileged communities, ensuring rugby remains accessible to all.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, High Commissioner Miller highlighted the role of sport in community development and international relations.
“Rugby has the power to unite people, build character, and create opportunities,” she said. “I am delighted to support the GRFU in their efforts to develop the sport in Guyana.”
GRFU President Ryan Dey expressed his gratitude for the donation, emphasising its importance for local players.
“This contribution from SOS Kit Aid and the British High Commission is invaluable,” Dey stated. “It will help equip our players and encourage more young athletes to take up rugby. We sincerely appreciate this support.”
The GRFU remains committed to expanding rugby’s reach within Guyana, nurturing local talent and strengthening the nation’s presence on the international stage.
The donation will play a key role in providing necessary resources to players at all levels.
