President Dr. Irfaan Ali assured members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Friday that their future and that of their families is secure. Speaking at the commissioning of the GDF Air Corps’ Hangar at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport in Ogle, the President expressed his government’s continued commitment to supporting the men and women who protect the nation.
Highlighting the multifaceted role of the GDF, President Ali emphasised their contributions beyond guarding the country’s borders. “The GDF is not only instrumental in safeguarding our nation, but also plays a crucial role in responding to disasters, delivering aid during floods, and assisting communities during times of crises,” he said.
The President went on to reaffirm his unwavering support for the GDF, stating, “We stand with you, and we deeply respect and appreciate the bravery of our men and women in uniform.”
Dr. Ali further assured the soldiers that his government is committed not only to equipping them with modern, agile capabilities but also to ensuring their long-term welfare. “We are investing in your career growth and providing you with improved opportunities for stability,” he noted.

“When your service to this nation concludes, you should never have to wonder how you will provide for yourself and your loved ones.”
Since 2020, the government has implemented various measures to support GDF personnel, including reinstating the one-month bonus, typically tax-free, in addition to regular salary increases and annual salary adjustments for some soldiers.
President Ali made it clear that beyond financial benefits, his administration is focused on the personal and professional development of soldiers, recognising the invaluable service they provide to the nation.
In 2022, the President revealed that all soldiers who have received land allocations will be provided with free steel and cement as part of the government’s housing support initiative. The government has also facilitated an engagement between soldiers and local banks to assist in securing loans for building homes.
To further enhance their professional development, President Ali stated that training opportunities will be expanded, providing soldiers with more chances for international exposure.
“We are committed to ensuring that the GDF remains strong, modern, and capable,” he concluded. “Let us stand united, reject fear, and embrace the strength of our people. A united nation is an unstoppable force.”
