Chesney woman killed in motorcycle collision

An 81-year-old woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a motorcycle on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Menawatty Harilall of Lot 70, Chesney New Scheme, Region Six.

Her son, Rooplall Harilall, told reporters that his mother had left home around 8:30 am after completing her prayers and was on her way to dispose of flowers in a trench located a few streets away.

CCTV footage reviewed by this publication clearly shows Menawatty attempting to cross the road when she was struck by the motorcycle, causing her to fall onto the road surface. An alarm was subsequently raised, prompting villagers to rush to the scene.

Rooplall confirmed that the motorcyclist immediately rendered assistance. However, despite being rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, Menawatty was pronounced dead on arrival.

Authorities have arrested the motorcyclist, who is currently cooperating with the police investigation into the incident.
