No evidence man with down syndrome was abducted – Police

Following an investigation into the alleged abduction of a teenager with down syndrome, Police on Thursday that there is no evidence to suggest that the teen was the victim of a crime or was kept against his will.

So, the two females, including a 15-year-old girl, who he was last seen with has since been released.

Colin Junior Blair, 28, of Sophia reportedly wandered off on March 20 after he went to a Kitty shop where he would normally lime.

“From the investigation conducted thus far, it is the view of the investigating rank that there is no evidence to suggest that Blair was abducted.

“There is also no evidence that he was wrongfully confined or kept against his will. None of these suggestions can be disputed because of Blair’s condition, and no one came forward with any evidence supporting the allegation that he was abducted,” Police Headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

According to a Police report, following Blair’s disappearance, his grandmother, Patricia Blair began to search for him.

After he did not return home, she lodged a report at the Prashad Nagar Police outpost.

Eventually, Police said Patricia was shown a video that with Colin and two females outside the Parliament building. So, she went to the area to check.

In doing so, she received information that the female and Colin were boarded a bus and went to Linden and the females were arrested at a checkpoint in Lethem.

Police subsequently acting on information received arrested the females- a 30-year-old and a 15-year-old.  At the time, they were accompanied by Colin and were at a shop at Fairview Village, North Rupununi, waiting travel to Lethem.

The females were later sent to Kitty Police Station along with Colin where they were placed in custody. Colin was reunited with his grandmother.

Police said the teenager claimed that she was liming when they saw Blair and told him they were that they were going and hang out. She said they asked him whether he wanted to join and he agreed.

“They then left Pike Street Sophia and caught a minibus to Georgetown. While in the minibus, the teen said Blair told her that he was feeling hot. As a result, she took off the jersey he was wearing and put on one of her dresses on him. On arrival at the Stabroek market bus park, she took off the dress from Colin Blair and put his jersey back on,” Police Headquarters detailed.

They proceeded to Linden bus park, where they caught a Route 43 minibus and went to Linden.

Police said the 30-year-old woman was questioned and she supported the 15-year-old story. She was placed on bail while the teenager was sent away in the custody of her parents.

Having considered the case, Police said the file was forwarded with legal advice on the way forward.
