GCB president urges U-15 cricketers to demonstrate discipline, sportsmanship and pride

President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Bissoondyal Singh, met with the national Under-15 team during their encampment this week, offering words of encouragement as the young cricketers prepare to represent Guyana at the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Under-15 Tournament.

The team will depart Guyana on Sunday (April 13), with the tournament bowling off on April 15.

Singh urged the players to uphold discipline, demonstrate sportsmanship, and carry the national pride as they compete against the region’s best.

“As part of his visit, Singh also made a donation of cricket gear to several members of the team, further demonstrating the GCB’s commitment to supporting youth development and ensuring the players are properly equipped for the regional challenge,” the Guyana Cricket Board said in a press release.

The squad features Richard Ramdeholl as captain and Brandon Henry as vice-captain.

The full team includes: Justin Dowlin, Lomar Seecharran, Luke Amsterdam, Shahid Ramzan, Arif Bacchus, Richard Ramdeholl, Nathaniel Ramsammy, Jathniel Nurse, Usain Fredericks, Brandon Henry, Reyaz Latif, Patrice Fraser, Rafeal McKenzie and Prosper Jacobus.

The reserves are: Khush Seegobin, Joshua Thomas, Bomesh Lall, Nathan Bishop, Tameshwar Deonandan abd Tyrese McPherson. Terry Newton will serve as the team’s manager, while Yeuraj Khemraj takes on duties as coach.

The CWI Rising Stars tournament plays a critical role in the development of the region’s young cricketing talent and offers a vital platform for players to showcase their skills.

Team Guyana will be looking to make a strong impact on the regional stage.

Fixtures

Five rounds of 50-over matches will be played from April 15 to 23 at four venues in Antigua, with all games starting 09:30h.

Guyana’s first match is against Trinidad and Tobago on April 15 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, followed by a round two clash against Jamaica at the Antigua Recreation Ground on April 17.

On April 19, Guyana will face Windward Islands at the Antigua Recreation Ground, while on April 21, the Guyanese will be up against Leeward Islands at the same venue.

In the final round, on April 23, Guyana will play against Barbados at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
