Cuban found dead with stab wounds at Melanie Market street

Jose Aurelio Ramirez, a 54-year-old Cuban national, is now dead after he was stabbed at Melanie Market street, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement said the incident occurred around 02:40 hrs on Sunday April 13.

One suspect was arrested and is custody, Police said.

According to a Police report, inquiries revealed that an anti-crime patrol was on duty in the vicinity of the Melanie Market area when they observed an emergency response team from the Melanie Fire Station attending to Ramirez.

He was lying on the road with several suspected stab wounds about his body including to his chest, rib and chin.

A female Cuban national was with Ramirez. Police said she was not injured but she was questioned and is assisting with investigations.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
