Two men are in Police custody after they were nabbed with an unlicensed .32 firearm and about 564 grammes of marijuana.
Acting on intelligence received, at about 22:40hrs, the police stopped a Toyota Axio motorcar at the intersection of Main and Vryheid Streets, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Police said the vehicle was at the time being driven by a 36-year-old male, accompanied by a lone passenger (a 50-year-old male).
The ranks then requested to carry out a search of the vehicle. During the search, a bulky plastic bag was discovered in the bonnet of the vehicle, and on examination, it was found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. A further search revealed another plastic bag containing some more suspected cannabis, along with a .32 firearm.
Both the driver and passenger were told of the offences committed, cautioned, arrested, and taken to the Central Police Station, along with the items found.
The firearm and suspected cannabis which when weighed, amounted to 564 gramme, were marked, sealed, and lodged.
Investigations are ongoing.
