Following a third-place finish in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Super50 Cup, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming CWI Women’s T20 Blaze tournament.
The regional competition is scheduled to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines from April 28 to May 12.
The selectors have opted for a blend of experience and fresh talent, retaining several players who featured in the Super50 while also introducing new faces to strengthen the team’s prospects in the shorter T20 format.
Guyana had a commendable Super50 campaign, finishing behind Trinidad & Tobago and the eventual champions, Barbados.
Experienced campaigner Shemaine Campbelle will lead the side.
The rest of the 14-member squad includes: Ashmini Munisar, Mandy Mangru, Cherry-Ann Fraser, Tremaine Marks, Nyia Latchman, Sheneta Grimmond, Katana Mentore, Releanna Grimmond, Anastacia Venezuela, Shabika Gajnabi, Latoya Williams, Plaffiana Millington, Cianna Retemiah.
The GCB extended their congratulations to Tremaine Marks, Anastacia Venezuela, Latoya Williams, and Cianna Retemiah on earning their places in the T20 squad.
According to the GCB, their selection reflects the selectors’ confidence in their ability to adapt and perform effectively in the fast-paced T20 format.
Under the guidance of head coach Tremayne Smartt and assistant Clive Grimmond, the Guyana squad is currently undergoing preparations, focusing on delivering strong performances throughout the T20 Blaze.
Agenlica Knights will be the physiotherapist.
The GCB has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to represent Guyana with pride and aims to improve on their second-place finish from last year’s T20 competition, where they secured three wins out of five matches.
