A comprehensive police search is currently underway at the Double Day Hotel following the suspected abduction of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, with direct intervention from President Irfaan Ali.
The President personally contacted Adrianna’s mother via telephone, assuring her that a full-scale search would be launched, including the deployment of sniffer dogs. Although the dogs are yet to arrive on the scene, police officers have already commenced sweeping the hotel’s lower level and surrounding grounds.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud, has also arrived at the location, where tensions have escalated among residents and relatives. She addressed the agitated crowd, relaying the President’s message and promising action.
Protests intensified as frustrated residents lit tyres and debris, using vehicles to block the main road in an effort to demand swifter action. Several relatives have also openly questioned the accuracy of the police’s initial report into the incident.
Adrianna Younge was reported missing on Wednesday after visiting the Double Day Hotel’s pool with her grandmother, Carol Xavier, and other family members at approximately 13:02 hrs. According to the grandmother, Adrianna was given money to purchase a band required to access the swimming pool.
When the family attempted to gather everyone to leave, Adrianna was nowhere to be found. A search of the hotel by relatives proved unsuccessful, prompting them to report the matter to the Tuschen Police Station.
Police conducted an initial sweep of the premises, including hotel rooms, a store room, the yard, and even the rooftop, but the child was not found. Although several surveillance cameras were spotted on the building, the hotel’s manager reportedly stated they were not operational.
Further investigation by the Regional Division #3 Command Centre revealed CCTV footage showing Adrianna entering a red and black Toyota Raum, bearing registration number PSS 4684. The vehicle was seen driving eastward in the direction of Vreed-en-Hoop.
The registered owner of the vehicle informed authorities that it had been rented out to an individual known only as “Orlando” since the previous week. Attempts to locate Orlando at an address provided were unsuccessful.
A later trace of the vehicle by the Georgetown Command Centre at approximately 20:58 hrs placed it in Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara, in the vicinity of the ‘White Shop’ shortcut.
Police have confirmed that efforts to locate the vehicle and the suspect are ongoing as the investigation intensifies.
