Deputy Superintendent dead after collision with concrete bridge at Montrose

Deputy Superintendent within the Guyana Police Force, Dexter Brown, died early Sunday morning after he reportedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving and collided with a bridge at Montrose, East Coast Demerara.

According to a release from the Guyana Police Force, the fatal incident occurred at about 01:20hrs. Police in Regional Division 4’C’ are investigating the circumstances that led to this tragedy.

Brown, 37, resided at Toucan Drive, South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown. He was reportedly driving motorcar PAG 6458, owned by a 30-year-old businesswoman of Ann’s Grove, along the Montrose Public Road at the time of the accident.

Inquiries disclosed that Brown was proceeding in the western direction and allegedly at a fast rate, when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the concrete bridge.

This resulted in a collision, causing the car to flip and ended up in a trench on the side of the road. It submerged in the trench and public-spirited citizens were able to take Brown’s body out of the submerged car. He was in an unconscious state.

The man was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead.

The vehicle has since been removed and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer.

At this time, Brown’s body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Mortuary, awaiting a post mortem examination.
